Wild boars: damages for 2 million euros. Farmers ready to occupy the Region.
Ancona, 8 February 2010 - If not, it will start right away a plan for the slaughter of wild boars the farmers of the Marche are ready to occupy the offices of the Region and of the five Provinces which are responsible for managing the territory. This is the message that emerged from the sit-in that this morning saw about fifty agricultural entrepreneurs demonstrate in front of the classroom of the Regional Council on the initiative of Coldiretti Marche, to denounce a situation that in the countryside is becoming increasingly explosive after more than two million euros of damage caused by wild animals to crops in 2009.
Just today the wildlife plan was under discussion, then not voted on and postponed to tomorrow's session, Tuesday 9 February, together with the revision of the hunting law. "First of all, we ask the council to give the green light to the extraordinary abatement plan that affects the entire regional territory, including parks and protected areas, since otherwise it will not be possible to solve a problem that is becoming dramatic for those who work in inland areas and hills as well as endangering the lives of motorists - denounced the president of Coldiretti Marche, Giannalberto Luzi -. It is also necessary to postpone the discussion of the new law on hunting which, as it has been devised, does not solve the problems of agriculture since it does not clarify the tools for preventing damage ”.
Coldiretti also urges a review of the law on the management of protected areas, since it is above all in these areas that wild animals proliferate without control, devastating the fields. Just look at the data on crops in recent years: in 2005 the sum was 820 thousand euros but the following year it had already risen to 1.050.000 euros. In 2007, a new leap forward, with 1,9 million euros, while in 2008 the figure exceeded 2 million. And for 2009, the first estimates indicate a slightly higher figure.
