Born from a happy intuition of Serena Galvani and realized, this year, thanks to the collaboration established between the OFI (Order of Falconers of Italy) ei Brothers of the Coast of the Table of Trieste, the Trophy had as protagonists some excellent falconers from neighboring regions, Veneto, Lombardy, Emilia-R. and Tuscany- and numerous Brothers of the Costa delle Tavole in Trieste, Castel Lova, Bologna and Lugano.
Below is a brief historical excursus, to grasp the similarities and consonances that unite two ancient and very noble arts, born with man at the dawn of civilization: the Falconry , Marine. Both these arts - because they are real arts - are aimed at what - for the human eye - has no boundaries, the sky and the sea and both require the same great passion, attention, as well as creativity, perseverance and expertise, requirements without which Art declines with melancholy approximation.
Roger of Flor, son of a falconer master of King Frederick II of Swabia - a figure who certainly needs no introduction - at the age of eight he was co-opted by the Order of the Knights of the Temple and began to go to sea. Versatile intelligence, will and determination, made Ruggero the most expert connoisseur of the seafaring arts and the most courageous navigator of the Templar fleet. The very young Ruggero was therefore entrusted with the command of the most modern and most beautiful of the Templar ships: the "Falco" also known as the "Temple Falcon". Determined to avenge the death of his father, killed at the hands of the Angevins, Ruggero rendered his services to the Aragonese, bitter enemies of the latter. This circumstance was decisive in determining his metamorphosis: the Templar became a Pirate, but the Pirate Roger never changed his soul or his deep feeling as a fighter and never ceased to fight, with valor, for a cause that he considered just. At the head of the Company of Ventura Catalana, Roger accumulated wealth, honors and so much power as to destabilize the succession to the throne of the Byzantine Empire, which is why the legitimate heir had him treacherously assassinated during a banquet.
Like then Ruggero, today's Costa Brothers sail the sea, they have a rigorous code of ethics and are organized in "Tables" depending on the place of origin: this year, the representation of the Lugano Table has given the event an international value: friendships can be established far beyond the borders of their own country when they are united from the same passion and when the same horizon is scrutinized in the distance.
Guests and external observers were welcomed with great friendship and cordiality by the President of the OFI, Alessio Pizziol and they noted, with no little surprise, how complex the organization was and how complex the management of the Trophy was in all its wait. The well-established and comradely rituality that, step by step, marked the protocol followed by the Brothers della Costa during the Trophy, was an ideal complement to the extremely rigorous procedures codified by the falconers during falconry hunting and, of the latter, it has become a precious setting. .
The Brothers of the Table of Trieste offered the Challenge Trophy to the winning falconer who, according to the rules of the nautical world, must carefully guard the Trophy for a whole year and then return it to the Organization one month before the next event.
In time sequence, the Trophy bears the name of each winning Falconer. For the record, Giuseppe Chiodi is the falconer who won the Trophy of the last 2014 edition, while for 2015 it is Ivan Busso, accompanied by Lgt. Of the Table of Castel Lova Ulderico Rigon. The falconer who is the winner for three consecutive years will definitively win the Trophy.
For purely organizational reasons, the second 2015 edition of the Ruggero da Flor Trophy as well as the first, was addressed to a small number of falconers and, as usual, each of them was accompanied on the airfield by a Brother of the Costa who he shared all the moments of the hunt in close contact with the falconer and contributed, with his behavior, to the final score for the general classification. In fact, in addition to disseminating the art of Falconry, it is the intention of the organizers to highlight the consonances of these two ancient Arts, as well as keeping alive in the individual and collective memory the millenary and glorious tradition of Maritime and Falconry.
Il hunting regulations provided for the tender to take place according to the double modality of so-called "high flight " is " low flight ". The game was sought with the help of the dog. The competition judges, Francesco Lanzieri and President of OFI Alessio Pizziol, assigned a score for each of the following objectively detectable indicators: Falconer behavior, Falcon and dog behavior, harmony between the Brother della Costa and the Falconer. The sum of the individual scores determined, at the discretion of the judges, the total attributed to each pair and the subtotals made up the final ranking.
Il Challenge Trophy 2015 it was assigned to the falconer Ivan Busso and to the Brotherhood Table of Castel Lova.
