“I thank the Prefect Stefano Gambacurta, of the Department of Public Security of the Ministry of the Interior, on behalf of the whole category, for having accepted my requests and requests for clarification for the holders of firearms.
With the circular of 11 June 2020 it is in fact sanctioned that when submitting applications for renewal of firearms license authorizations (including those whose expiration has been extended following the COVID-19 emergency) they must be left in the availability of the holder until the issue of the renewal measure.
It is a real revolution in simplifying a bureaucratic-administrative babel that is burdensome, inexplicable and incomprehensible, to the detriment of the entire hunting sector, as I was able to explain both personally to the Prefect and in the institutional setting.
I take this opportunity to remind you that, as illustrated by the circular of 13 May 2020, pursuant to decrees 18/2020 and 23/2020, all licenses for firearms that have expired or are expiring between 31 January and 31 July have the following new deadline on 29 October 2020 (90 days from the end of the state of emergency).
As for the firearms passbooks, to be understood as an identity document, expiring from January 31st, their validity has been extended to August 31st 2020. On this point, I would like to clarify, as can be seen from the circular, that any expiration of the firearms permit does not affect the firearms license, to which the new deadline of October 29 applies. In case of expiry of the booklet only, it is possible to accompany the firearms license with any identity document.
