Hunting: the Province of Genoa has approved the new Wildlife Hunting Plan valid for the provincial territory.
The "regulatory plan" of all the woods, meadows, pastures, agricultural areas of the Genoese provincial territory to protect wildlife, regulate hunting activities, formulate guidelines and strategies for the management and improvement of natural habitats. It is the new wildlife hunting plan of the Province of Genoa, approved by Commissioner Piero Fossati with the powers of the Provincial Council, drawn up on the basis of the criteria of Ispra (the former National Institute for Wildlife) and of the wildlife hunting guidelines of the Region Liguria. The law establishes that a percentage of the "agro-forestry-pastoral territory" is destined for the protection of wildlife between 20 and 30 percent and the share of areas with a ban on hunting in the hunting fauna plan of the Province of Genoa reaches 28,94. , 71% while the remaining ones, over XNUMX%, constitute the territory of the two hunting areas (Atc). The hunting fauna plan was also subjected to a strategic environmental assessment (Vas) by the Region, with a final positive judgment. The competent environmental subjects (Arpal, Superintendence, Regional Offices, Parks, Provinces and neighboring Regions) were involved in the Vas procedure and public opinions and observations were collected.
The photograph of the plan (very dynamic, because in the five years of duration it will be subjected to annual monitoring, using 33 different indicators, on the respect and effectiveness of the actions and guidelines and to more global updates and reviews in two and a half years) says that ten oases are part of the protected territory for fauna and prohibited from hunting (areas with functions of refuge, rest and reproduction for wild animals to favor their settlement and natural spread), as many repopulation and capture areas (for reproduction in the natural state and the controlled catches of specimens to be placed on the territory, respecting the conditions of acclimatization to reconstitute the optimal fauna density according to the established criteria), two mountain passes to protect migratory birds, in addition to the rock walls where birds of species nest protected areas and naturalistic interest, the areas for dog training, the wooded areas that have suffered fires , parks, state-owned forests, areas of wildlife-hunting farms, buffer zones around the road and railway network (50 meters) and around the houses (one hundred meters).
Among the oases, two are newly established: that of Forte dei Ratti, in the Genoese area, and that of Punta Manara-Vallegrande in the east (which includes the area downstream of the trails of Punta Manara and the more coastal strip for Vallegrande). “The new protection areas - says Piero Fossati - are dedicated in particular to the avifauna of the Mediterranean environment and are the only ones existing in the whole province in addition to the Portofino promontory. As we specified with the councilor Briano in a recent letter to the mayors, these oases do not involve any type of constraint for the territory, excluding the ban on hunting. The commitment to implement the new plan was very complex and we also encountered some initial misunderstanding and some unfortunate misrepresentation of the facts, but we believe we have obtained with the contribution of all an important and effective tool to harmonize wildlife protection and agricultural activities. and hunting ".
As regards the repopulation and capture areas, there are two main changes, both required by the ATC: the Val Noci area, which was broadly enlarged compared to the previous wildlife plan, and that of Roccagrande (between Val Petronio and Val Graveglia) which merges the previous ones. areas of Rocca dell'Aquila and Biscia-Bocco. The two protective mountain passes for migrants are the Turchino and the Giovi. On the territory there is also a special protection area (Beigua-Turchino) entrusted to the management of the Beigua Park. It derives from a specific EU directive on bird conservation measures and limits, without prohibiting, hunting.
The new plan has been sent to the Region for the congruence checks to the regional wildlife hunting addresses, to the Municipalities for posting on the praetor boards, has been published on the website of the Province and will be so in the next days also in the Official Bulletin of the Liguria Region. .
