The list of hunting accidents that sadly characterized this Hunting Season is getting longer and that even with the new year does not seem to stop.
In recent days, a 66-year-old man from Civitanova Marche, in the province of Macerata, was the victim of a tragic hunting accident in the countryside of Vicoli, in the province of Pescara. The man died after being shot by his own accidentally triggered shotgun when he fell off a cliff. According to an initial reconstruction by the Carabinieri of Penne (PE) and the magistrate on duty who intervened on the spot, the man went out hunting alone around 8 but while walking along an uphill path he tripped; in the fall, a shot was accidentally fired from his own rifle which hit him in the chest, killing him instantly. The 118 rescues were in vain and they could only ascertain the death of the hunter.
More fortunate, however, was the hunter who in the province of Varese was injured by a shotgun accidentally fired by a hunting companion. It happened yesterday afternoon in Golasecca (VA), where a fifty-two-year-old man was injured in the hand and face after being hit by a group of shots from his hunting companion's rifle.
According to an initial reconstruction of the State Police intervened on the spot, the two hunters were in the countryside of Golasecca when both aimed at the same prey at the same time, a bird which, however, abruptly changed direction until it took a trajectory that crossed the lines of shooting of the two hunters.
One of the two hunters noticed too late his companion's proximity and fired while the other, realizing that he was in his friend's line of fire, immediately tried to cover his face with his hands but was still hit by the group of shot.
The injured man was immediately rescued by his hunter friend who transported him to the emergency room of the Gallarate hospital; for the injuries sustained to the face and hand, the man will get away with a prognosis of twelve days, barring complications. The wounded hunter, however, has already declared that he has no intention of filing a complaint against his friend given the recognized accidental nature of the fact; the events that occurred were however reported to the Public Prosecutor's Office of Busto Arsizio for the evaluation of the case.
Once again the passion for hunting has to deal with chance, the low safety of hunting rifles and, more importantly, the neglect of some hunters for the safety rules in the handling of weapons and common sense. during the hunts which, we remember, must always be our most faithful hunting companion.
