After the episode of the elderly woman attacked by a herd of wild boars while walking in via Bologna in Genoa with her dogs, one of which was fatally wounded, the "wild boar phobia" spreads in the city.
November 30, 2011 - The growth of the phobia of ungulates is mainly due to the fact that the sightings of wild boars walking through the city streets are increasingly on the rise. The latest sightings occurred in recent days in the public gardens located in via Montaldo and via Burlando.
Among the citizens is spreading in addition to the fear of an eventual aggression by animals, as it happened for the lady in via Bologna a few days ago, also another fear that embraces the health aspect of the issue.
In fact, it is feared that i boars can somehow transmit a disease of which they are generally healthy carriers, ie the so-called pseudo rabies or "Aujeszky's disease".
The contagion of this disease, which mainly affects pets such as dogs and cats and which can lead to fulminant death, can easily occur through the ingestion of raw and infected meats.
The danger of contagion for humans is almost nil as the virus in question is completely neutralized by cooking the meat.
