Hunting and Fauna: Grosseto, white boars in the Maremma countryside in herd with their darker cousins.
White boars, in a herd with their darker colored brothers, grazing peacefully by the side of a road. The photos are published by the Il Giunco website, on the recommendation of a reader who spotted the unusual animals in the countryside around Campagnatico and managed to immortalize them. White boars resemble medium-sized pigs, but have bristles that appear longer. Probably these are crosses between wild boars and breeding pigs, who knows how they ended up in the wild. The family, made up of both classic specimens and small light-colored wild boars, who dine quietly, was photographed in the source locality, in a field on the edge of the road. In the hunting season, an all too easy target for hunters in search of prey. And the strange wild boars certainly attract attention. A similar event had already occurred in the past, when some pigs escaped from a farm and crossed paths with wild specimens. Wild boars were born which, growing up, had come to weigh up to 250 kilos. If the young boars survive the hunting season, they are likely to reproduce again and the white boar will become more and more common.
