In the province of Lecco the hunters are sounding the alarm for the roe deer population which seems to be in danger while the estimates give that of the chamois in good health.
The affected area is that of Ballabio and Balisio where the same hunters now avoid hunting roe deer as they are heavily declining in population. In the area of Monte Due Mani there is the provisional headquarters for the local Federcaccia, hosted by the CAI, which explains on the matter, "Too many intersections between them, those in the area of Ballabio and Balisio are sick, weak and the number of heads is in strong downsizing, to the point that we ourselves have not chased them for some time ”.
Recently, cases of dead roe deer have been very frequent, especially due to the decrease in alertness towards men and vehicles along the provincial road. It is now widespread opinion among the Ballabiesi hunters, that these animals are not in good health probably due to the fact that the few remaining roe deer continue to procreate among relatives, giving fertile ground for the increase of diseases with consequent decrease in survival skills.
Federcaccia recommends a careful repopulation plan for these ungulates for which appropriate proposals have already been made to the competent authorities. In spite of the state of health of the roe deer cousins, the chamois of the area are doing very well and are increasing in population; there are currently about eighty chiefs resident between the two sides of Monte Due Mani.
