Hunting and Fauna: in Tusa, on the Nebrodi in the province of Messina, a wild boar attacks a young shepherd who was later rescued by his companions; the mayor, "the killing must be authorized".
Alarm in Tusa, as well as in some villages of the Nebrodi, for the increasingly frequent incursions of wild pigs, even in the vicinity of inhabited centers. Fear is growing among farmers and shepherds after the attack of a young man who has barely managed to save himself. And the municipality of alesino runs for cover, asking the prefect for help for an order to kill the animals. The accident took place on Thursday, but the mayor, Angelo Tudisca, together with the commander of the Forestry detachment, Sebastiano Chiella, and the representatives of the police, gave the news yesterday, after having carried out some inspections and taken stock of the situation, to avoid creating alarmism.
Today, the mayor will contact the prefect to arrange an intervention. Meanwhile, the Forestry has sent a communication to the Prefecture, the Prosecutor's Office of Mistretta and the mayors of the neighboring municipalities (Pettineo, Castel di Lucio, Motta d'Affermo). He announces that the young Giuseppe Ferraro, in the locality of Scardino-Sambuchello, suffered an attack by a wild boar which caused injuries to his lower limbs. And that the victim, rescued by other shepherds, was transported to the hospital in Cefalù.
Ferraro he was in the country to work, when suddenly he saw the big animal, at a distance of about ten meters. Attacked, he was thrown to the ground and bitten. "If it had not been for the help of the shepherds and the dogs - commented the young man, still in a state of shock - the wild boar would have certainly torn me to pieces".
Commander Chiella underlines how the presence of wild pigs has been reported for some time. "The dangerousness of these animals is confirmed, - reads the Forestry report - which, in addition to causing considerable damage to agricultural crops, seriously endanger public safety".
About two years ago, the mayor Tudisca had organized a conference of services and issued a killing order, against which, however, the animal rights activists of the Lav were opposed. “Lav denounced me and Pettineo's colleague to the Public Prosecutor's Office of Mistretta - recalls the mayor -. Now, however, it is too much. On Monday I will ask the prefect to be authorized to shoot down. I have already given instructions to use the municipal slaughterhouse as a collection center for the garments, to carry out the necessary checks ”.
