The Province of Savona is ready to face the wild boar emergency with an extraordinary intervention plan.
According to a recent estimate, about 10.000 ungulates have been registered in the Savona area, mostly populations of wild boars in continuous growth; this implies the more and more frequent presence of wild boars in urban areas that arrive ever closer to inhabited centers or urban parks also thanks to the continuous foraging. All this despite the 128 teams for the slaughter and control of the territory activated to tackle the problem.
On the issue, the provincial councilor Paolo Ripamonti explained, “The 90% reduction is expected. The interventions of the provincial police are not from the Far West, but established by a very precise and concerted plan ”.
Continuing Ripamonti then explained, "We approved an amendment to the regulation on wild boar hunting, with an important role for the territorial hunting areas, with deterrent tasks on the presence of wild boar near the houses, with an ad hoc memorandum of understanding for the control of the territory and timeliness of intervention ".
Then replying to the controversy of recent days, the commissioner said, "In the light of the news released in recent days, I would like to point out that the Province is well aware of the problems related to ungulates in urban areas".
In the last month, numerous meetings have been held in the Province and in the Prefecture to agree on possible suitable solutions and in the short term stem the problem of wild boars that encroach on urban areas, causing in addition to the now well-known damage to agricultural production also road accidents and various inconveniences to the inhabitants. ; one of the repercussions of the presence of wild boars in the urban area is the closure of the urban park "La Magiarda" in Spotorno with an ordinance of the Municipality aimed at allowing the carrying out of sanitation interventions from fleas, ticks and other parasites brought by wild animals and in particular wild boars.
