The operations for the roe deer census in the Monte Rufeno Reserve in the province of Viterbo will begin next Tuesday 8 May.
For the tenth consecutive year, the Monte Rufeno Nature Reserve, in the province of Viterbo, will organize the roe deer census operations for next Tuesday 8 May. About 90 operators including personnel from the Parks of Lazio, the Province of Viterbo, the State Forestry Corps, university researchers, environmental and hunting associations, hunters and simple enthusiasts will give their contribution for a fundamental action for updating knowledge on distribution, consistency and dynamics of the population present in the protected area.
Also with the aim of seeking the collaboration of the local population and related stakeholders in order to guarantee their periodic involvement in the management and conservation of fauna that increases the sense of belonging to their territory, it will be used again this year. the method of counting by means of fixed observers (the post offices) arranged along three sides of the perimeter of the strike area, of the roe deer moved to escape by the progressive advancement of the mobile front of the beaters, which proceed arranged along the fourth side of the polygon described by the posed.
Thanks to this technique it will be possible to obtain real density data comparable in time and space and to know the consistency and trend of the roe deer population present in the protected area.
