On the Viterbo coast, in the Toraccio swamp, we are witnessing the nesting of the Corriere Piccolo.
A nest with two Corriere Piccolo eggs (Charadrius dubius, Scopoli 1786) was found in the Torraccio swamp on the edge of a pond overlooking the sea, in the Viterbo coast. Thanks to the good environmental practices implemented by the concessionaire of the fixed hunting post planted there and consisting of rodent control, mowing of the reeds at the end of the reproductive season and the creation of a protective cordon of vegetation to avoid anthropic disturbance, the Corriere Piccolo was able to nest in this area.
The species is reported together with the Fratino in the red list of nesting species in Lazio. The Palude del Torraccio is currently run by the tenant Alessandro Pani, president of the Wetland Italia association, an association for the conservation and restoration of wetlands.
