While many around do nothing but chat and limit themselves to words, in the province of Parma, in Palanzano, hunters prefer to do facts and do everything possible to reconcile environmental protection with hunting.
In fact, the hunters of the Valley of the Knights take advantage of the time available to them to do something good that can benefit the whole territory in general and in particular the territories that host them during their hunting trips.
This is how some Palanzano hunters explain their commitment, “For us hunting does not consist only in shooting during the months of leave. We don't want to just take from these territories and we have thought of doing something good for our valley ”.
So with the support of the "Parma 5" Hunting Territorial Area which includes the territories of Palanzano, Berceto and Tizzano, the hunters have decided to get busy offering means and their time to try to limit the phenomenon as much as possible. of degradation caused by progressive abandonment of the High Lands.
In fact, every year the local hunters organize the so-called “Ecological Day” during which the meadows, the escarpments and the river beds are cleaned of waste; furthermore, the low temperatures of last winter brought the phenomenon of glass-ice to the Apennines so, in agreement with the Territorial Hunting Area, the hunters beat the area concerned for three days with their own means in order to clear the roads municipalities with broken branches due to the weight of the ice.
Another important objective of the hunters is to recover at least some of the many fountains scattered on the mountains in the area and no longer used; in 2011 two of these fountains with a watering basin, the Felegaro fountain on Monte Faggeto and the Martina fountain near Vairo, were recovered thanks also to the collaboration of the farmers in the area as well as the contribution of the ATC and Federcaccia Palanzano.
And so, with the creation of stone fountains and watering basins, the Felegaro fountain on Monte Faggeto and the Martina fountain, near Vairo, a few steps from the church of the Madonna della Neve in Vairo, have resumed gushing.
The hunters comment on this, “Fountains are a treasure for our mountains and it is a pity to let them disappear. For this reason we have decided to carry on the project also in 2012 and we have identified some fountains that will be the subject of our interventions ".
