Hunting: Bologna, the Metropolitan Wildlife Hunting Plan extended until 31 December 2016.
To ensure adequate planning of the wildlife hunting activities envisaged throughout the territory, the Council of the Metropolitan City of Bologna has decided to extend the validity of the current wildlife hunting plan until 31 December 2016, the expiry of which was originally scheduled for 31 March. . The extension was made necessary given the current uncertainty regarding the attribution of competences relating to wildlife-hunting management and the absence of regional addresses on the subject, elements that currently advise against the drafting of the new document. The Plan is the instrument that regulates the hunting activity in the metropolitan agro-forestry-pastoral territory, indicating for example which portions of the territory are intended for hunting, which for restocking and which for hunting faunal companies.
The wildlife hunting plan then subdivides the entire metropolitan territory into 3 ATC - Territorial Areas of Hunting (BO1 Pianura, BO2 Imolese and eastern Bologna and BO3 Collina e Montagna Ovest), non-profit association structures which are entrusted with carrying out the activities wildlife management and organization of hunting.
The significant and constant decline in the number of hunters that has been registered in the Bologna area over the last 10 years, from 10.112 registered in 2004 to 6.476 in 2014, represents a critical issue: the voluntary contribution of hunters' associations is in fact essential for proper functioning. ATCs and wildlife control activities. Nowadays hunting is an indispensable tool to guarantee, in an anthropized territory like ours, the balance between the protection of human needs and those of environmental and wildlife protection.
