Poaching: Rovigo, they hunted foxes when hunting was generally closed; six poachers reported.
A busy Sunday for the Provincial Police officers who tracked down six people who were hunting foxes during the closing period. In order not to be sanctioned, two poachers said they were walking in the countryside and found the carcass of a mallard on the ground after hiding their guns, one among the vegetation and one among the plants inside a ditch. A few steps away from them another hunter was hiding inside a hedge and three others, also in the area, were walking with a pack of dogs. The six were then reported to the judicial authority. They used an eviscerated animal as bait to hunt foxes, but Sunday 30 March did not go smoothly: six people were reported by the provincial police to the judicial authorities for hunting activities during the general closure period.
From the reconstruction of the facts it can be seen that on Sunday, from the operations center of the Carabinieri of Rovigo, the communication that one of their patrols had noticed the carcass of a mallard inside the open trunk of a vehicle, with the keys still inserted, parked near the craft area of Lendinara. Upon the arrival of the Provincial Police near the area manned by the Arma military, two people had in the meantime presented themselves, both Polesani dressed in specific hunting clothing, who claimed to have found the carcass a few hours earlier on the roadside while they were going to an appointment with a friend with whom they had organized a walk in the countryside of the middle polesine.
A few meters from the car, hidden inside a hedge, the Provincial Police officers detected the presence of a third person, also in camouflage clothing, who reported being in the area to verify the presumed presence of hare carcasses , possible victim of a fox. Also in the vicinity were found two rifles, owned by the two characters and one of these already ready for use, loaded with three cartridges, one in the barrel, as well as a box with ten cartridges of the same caliber.
Three other people, with a pack of dogs, were then identified "evidently gone away when the police arrived", taking the form of "the dynamic characteristic of fox hunting". The provincial police finally confiscated the two rifles and ammunition found as well as the mallard used as bait.
