Hunting: Bologna, selection of the Roe deer, hunting with the new densities that emerged from the last census; almost 5000 animals provided for in the slaughter plan approved by the Province.
The selection hunt for roe deer opens with a contingent of almost 5 head. The latest census shows a decline in the population of roe deer in the province of Bologna. However, the percentages of withdrawal in the most critical areas remain high to achieve densities compatible with the characteristics of the territory. The 1-2014 Hunting Season for the selection of roe deer hunting began on June 2015st. There are a total of 4.911 animals provided for in the abatement plan approved by the Province of Bologna (executive resolution no. 1524 of 27/5/2014). Most of these will be withdrawn in ATCs: 1.504 in BO2; 2.189 in BO3. The remaining share, 1.218 animals, is distributed among the 30 Wildlife Hunting Companies of the hilly and mountainous territory.
Compared to the previous hunting season (2013-2014), the quota to be taken with the selection hunt has decreased overall by 12%, in direct proportion to the decrease in the animals surveyed in the spring of this year. In the territory of our province the roe deer have in fact decreased by about 2 thousand units: a decrease of 9,3% in the ATC BO2, of 11,1% in the BO3 and of 8,9% in the hunting farms. The average density of roe deer in the two Bologna ATCs is currently just over 12 animals per sq km compared to 13,6 last year. The average density in AFV was higher, equal to 18,6 head / kmq, but decreased compared to the previous year, which was 20,4 head.
The culling plan was calculated on the basis of the spring censuses of the species, applying in the management districts, area by area, withdrawal percentages commensurate with the population of roe deer detected and the target densities set by the new provincial planning. It should be remembered that the compatible densities of ungulates were updated at the end of 2013 on the basis of the new faunal vocation maps of the Emilia Romagna Region. Also in this abatement plan in the most critical areas with respect to the impact of the cervid on agricultural crops or on residential settlements, exceptional withdrawal percentages of 45% have been applied, values higher than the annual useful increase, with the intention therefore to significantly reduce the roe deer population in these contexts.
The sampling plan approved by the Province also reports the roe deer hunting calendar, as established by regional legislation:
• from 1 June 2014 to 15 July 2014 - taking of male roe deer of age classes I and II;
• from 15 August 2014 to 30 September 2014 - taking of male roe deer of age classes I and II;
• from 1 January 2015 to 15 March 2015 - collection of female roe deer of all age groups and of the young of both sexes.
The act of the Provincial Administration also specifies the methods that the hunter must comply with in the selective collection of roe deer, including the biometric measurements to which the killed animals are subjected, the obligation to recover any injured animals, the use of meat in compliance with food safety and traceability standards for animals intended for collective consumption. Also this year there is an obligation for hunters to use the voice system for the start and end communications of each hunting activity. All communications must be made by telephone, landline or mobile, by calling 011 2219045 or even more quickly through web registration, following the following path https://93.92.72.55/gf_bologna_gui/login.do
Only in the event of unforeseen interruptions to the system, communication can take place via a message left on the answering machine of the area offices of the Provincial Police. The detailed instructions for each activity can be found on the website of the Province of Bologna, on the Hunting and Fishing thematic pages.
