There are 7 new appointments by the Prefect of Catania for the Zoophile Guards of the ENPA Provincial Nucleus that will join those already in service throughout the Etnea province.
The news given by the ENPA itself on 6 December has created widespread discontent. Although these are voluntary guards, it should be emphasized that grants and contributions mask in these cases a large donation of money that falls on the shoulders of every citizen.
In a period of economic crisis like the current one where an austerity plan is being implemented that requires great sacrifices, we ask ourselves what is the benefit of this new waste. In fact, it is wasteful since the police bodies in charge of zoophilic controls already exist and they are certainly much more prepared subjects and less or not at all polluted by prejudices.
The course for the qualification of these new guards has had a cost as will the contributions for the vehicles they will use, for the gasoline they will consume, for the uniforms they will wear and for the meals they will use.
They are volunteers only on paper, in reality they are similar-salaried, according to targeted requests for money, whose appointments are perhaps part of that patronage policy that distinguishes many local Sicilian institutions. "I gave you the job, I made you appoint the guards, now bring me the grades."
Caccia Ambiente in Sicily hopes not 7 but 100 new volunteer guards, but that they are voluntary in all respects and subsidized only and exclusively with donations or self-financing of the associations to which they belong; that they are also prepared and impartial, ……… .. perhaps we wish for a utopia.
This reality today concerns many other associations, organizations and movements that live and profit from the funding of the institutions, all for a round of money estimated at 150 million euros in Sicily alone, one billion euros in Italy, according to a calculation in default and approximate that fails to take into account all those associations that are born to defend the band of the country, for the protection of the red mint, for the patronal feast, for the turtle race or for the memorial to so and so.
All taken, without asking permission, from the pockets of citizens. Let's start from this, immediately cut all these little gifts for the electoral associations of convenience and strictly limit the appointments to any role of institutionalized volunteers because we already have too many sheriffs around and these new 7 we do not want to pay for them.
