Hunting: Fermo, the greeting of the Mayor of Amandola, Adolfo Marinangeli, to the hunters, “Hunting has an important social role”.
Today, Sunday 19 October, boar hunting reopens in the provinces of Ascoli, Fermo and Macerata; Ancona and Pesaro will have to wait until November XNUMXst. In the province of Fermo there are three sectors: “A” close to the mountains, “B” “buffer” area up to Falerone; “C” up to the coast, the so-called eradication zone where the presence of wild boar is undesirable to avoid damage to intensive crops. The closure is scheduled, as per the regional calendar, for next January 18th. Within the territory of the Monti Sibillini National Park, numerical control is allowed thanks to 11 hunters (for the western side) suitably trained with specific courses according to the sampling plan of the institution. Wild boar hunting techniques, provided for by the Regional Law n. 7 of 1995 are three:
- Hunted with teams made up of a minimum of 16 to a maximum of 80 hunters, depending on the size of the assigned area;
- Turn with dogs on a leash, from 2 to 8 hunters;
- Selection with stakeout, 1 hunter only, with a separate calendar, May 18-January 31.
Having made the necessary premises, close to the seasonal opening we met the new Mayor of Amandola Adolfo Marinangeli, in the past former councilor for hunting in the province of Fermo.
What do you feel like saying for this hunting season?
First of all I would like to wish good luck, indeed to the wild boar, to all hunters, in particular to the two batting teams operating within the territory of Amandola, about 60 people, so that it is an opportunity for recreation, in compliance with standards and in maximum safety, as has been the case for some time now.
The figure of the hunter seems increasingly unpopular
I believe that for too many years there has been a campaign of denigration against the category, at least for the experience I have been able to acquire, from the mass media. TV has done a lot, often unloading incorrect faults on hunting that objectively shouldn't have: pollution, for example, causes much more serious and persistent damage to wildlife.
Does that mean he's become a pro-hunter?
No, I just want to say that in life you have to be objective and know things well, otherwise we risk talking and making partial judgments. I am not a hunter but for my political role in recent years in the province I have met many serious and reliable people in the sector, respectful of the environment and the laws. I think that justice must be done to this sport, considering it not only as entertainment but by reviewing its important social function as for the control of fauna and in particular to deal with damage to crops. This year we have over 300 wild boars in our territory, a kind of invasion, with a dizzying increase in damages and complaints, I believe that an answer must also be given quickly and seriously to the farmers, without controversy and a priori positions.
As a municipality, with Montefortino you have proposed a solution in the Region
Yes, but it was not implemented… for a legislative issue. We still need to work a lot with the institutions, it is difficult terrain and the intervention of the parties involved, which are many and difficult to amalgamate, is necessary: however it must be done, politics calls for the most difficult challenges, it is not possible to always postpone the issues.
Do you have a message for anyone in particular?
No, I address everyone, hoping that the publication of this interview will not be the occasion for other controversies. Yes, I want to greet the hunters for the start of their activity by telling them that from the Amandolese administration there is no hostility, on the contrary there is all the respect and the will to put all possible effort to improve the situation.
We thank the Mayor for his sensitivity and balance shown, citing a fact that will please our hunters. Recently in Turkey, at Gobleki Tepe, the archaeologist Klaus Smith found an immense temple dating back to 12 thousand years ago, well 6 thousand before the discovery of agriculture, made by man who lived by spontaneous harvest and hunting. This overturns the theory that agriculture had stimulated the birth of social, religious and civil culture: according to Smith's theories our civilization was born from a society of hunters, therefore all of us are the children of hunters.
