La Anti Vivisection League (LAV) has released alarming data on hunting and alleged killing in our country. Here is the text of the animal rights statement: “In Italy they are huntable about fifty wild species, with some differences based on regional regulations. An animal that can be killed in Lazio, for example, may not be killed in Tuscany and vice versa. Timing may also vary.
In Sicily, hunting migratory bird species such as ducks and waders it has been postponed to October 2, while that for rabbits will be allowed after September 15 and only after a census that will verify the health of the local population (the numbers are gradually declining). Despite these precautions, the LAV estimates that 464 million animals could be legally killed during the hunting season in Italy. There are five million for each hunting day (from 3 to 5 per week, according to regional regulations), 500 thousand per hour and 139 per second.
This keeping in mind the daily and seasonal game bag of the 600 thousand hunters present on the national territory. Of course this is an overestimate of that it can be significantly reduced; although the quotas of heads established by law are not always respected, in fact, not all hunters kill all the heads of their game bag, and obviously not all hunters go out always and at the same time on hunting days. The LAV estimate suggests that, to reach those figures, each Italian hunter must kill about 770 animals over the entire season. Considering the fifty species involved, it would be several million specimens for each of them. It is therefore about potential numbers, to which must be added those of the protected specimens - such as this very rare hermit ibis - which end up being shot by poacher ".
