A debate on the management of ungulates in the Oltrepo Pavese area was held at the Oramala Castle, in the Municipality of Val di Nizza (PV).
At the ancient and majestic castle of Oramala in the municipality of Val di Nizza, in the upper Oltrepo Pavese, on the initiative of the ATC Oltrepo Nord 4 and Oltrepo Sud 5, a meeting-debate was held on the management of Ungulates through selection hunting , sponsored by the Province of Pavia in collaboration with URCA Lombardia, UNCC of Pavia, Accademia di Sant'Uberto and the provincial hunting associations FIdC, Arci Caccia and ANLC.
The conference served as a corollary to the XNUMXst Management Review of the province of Pavia, thanks to a series of excellent trophies of roe deer and wild boar which, in the morning, had been properly examined by a commission of measurers.
The afternoon occasion was propitious for an exchange of views on the importance of faunal-hunting management correctly exercised, in particular for the ungulate fauna, which passes through a preliminary, appropriate technical-scientific training of the hunters who thus become protagonists of a basic activity for a good development of the populations object of the sampling.
The honors were made by Ivan Torchio of the URCA, who introduced the general theme of the debate, and then passed the word to the Provincial Councilor for Hunting of Pavia Alberto Lasagna and to the Mayor of Val di Nizza Franco Campetti, who both underlined the managerial importance of the hunting activity but also its economic value, especially important in the current negative situation and in a difficult territory, such as the Apennine area of the Oltrepo, where any income integration is welcome for those who have continued or given birth to entrepreneurial or commercial activities. Basically, the local rural realities benefit from the presence of hunters and hunting is therefore a leading activity, provided of course that it is based on balanced rules and that it is carefully managed.
Riccardo Fiamberti, current Commissioner of ATC 5 Oltrepo Sud and president of the Provincial Agriculture Commission, also expressed himself in this sense, who also indicated some of the general guidelines which the Province of Pavia will follow in order to modify the current Provincial Wildlife-Hunting Plan. .
It was therefore the turn of the CIC Vice President Dr. Massimo Marracci to speak on the topic of the debate, first offering a quick overview of the history and organization of the CIC, and then illustrating the innovative program of the Italian Grand Gibier Commission / Exhibitions & Trophies for the training and qualification of operators in the biometric detection of Ungulates.
The first of these courses will be held between April and May 2013, in collaboration with the University of Udine and ISPRA and will represent a clear evolution compared to the current figure of CIC-enabled meters, thus creating operators capable of examining and to evaluate a subject of ungulate through all those biometric characteristics that go far beyond the "simple" trophy.
In the meantime (September 2012) a further, more traditional course for meters will be held in Belluno. The action of CIC Italia in the field of trophies understood as a branch of wildlife management, thanks to the continuous commitment of the Grand Gibier / Exhibitions & Trophies Commission, is gradually making our country assume the role of guide for the other national Delegations.
On the sidelines of the meeting, the serious problem of breeding animals in semi-artificial conditions for the sole purpose of obtaining record-breaking trophies to be resold at a very high price was also briefly analyzed, which the CIC has already condemned for some years. with specific resolutions approved for this purpose at international level after episodes of this nature which occurred in some Eastern European countries.
At the end of the debate, the Vice President Marracci wanted to testify the cultural, as well as technical, commitment of CIC Italia by giving the Councilor Lasagna a copy of the booklet "La Caccia in Cucina - The Hunt in the Kitchen" as well as a copy of the "Guide to hunting, trophysics and ornithological collections", edited by CIC member avv. Popper, to Dr. Panigazzi owner of the beautifully restored manor, hoping that in the future it will itself become home to an important hunting collection.
A new frontier for the management of Ungulates, that of the Oltrepo Pavese, which has what it takes to carve out a space of all respect in the national panorama, without fear of disfiguring next to territories of greater blazon and tradition in the specific sector.
