Hunting: in Valverde, in the province of Pavia, hunters and hunting guards come to a quarrel over a band badly attached to a killed wild boar; on the spot forced to intervene the Carabinieri.
Everything happens in the morning of 11 December last, in Bozzola in the municipality of Valverde (PV), where the “Papavero” team from Pavia had gone for a wild boar hunt; during the hunt one of the hunters is stopped by a self-styled ATC PV5 Hunting Guard who, according to the hunters, without showing any identification card, begins to examine one of the killed boars. The guard, having completed the examination of the carcass, disputes the incorrect affixing of the planned identification band that would have been attached to the nose of the animal rather than to the Achilles tendon of the paw. On the basis of this infringement, the guard begins to compile a report announcing the simultaneous seizure of the carcass. Immediate protest of the hunters who contest the irregular compilation of the report thus refusing to sign it; the dispute goes on for about three hours until the intervention of the Carabinieri of Varzi is requested on the spot in the presence of which the hunters accuse the guard of abuse of power to embezzle the boar. After a few lost hours, by now in the afternoon, the hunting team was able to resume the hunt but by now the herd of wild boars they had identified had moved away from the hunting area.
Following what happened, the hunters presented, through their lawyer, a complaint to the manager of the provincial Wildlife Sector with which they argue that the guard of the ATC PV 5 was in reality only a security guard, therefore lacking the appropriate legal qualification for proceed with the seizure. Furthermore, the hunters argue that there is no rule that obliges the affixing of the bands to the tendon or the relative pecuniary sanction in case of transgression; in the same way, according to the hunters, there is no rule that provides for the seizure of killed and “wrongly” marked animals. Finally, the harnesses of the team "Il Papavero" in the face of the abuse suffered and the hunting day lost due to the work of the guard, requested compensation from the ATC quantified in the sum of 18 thousand euros.
