For the second consecutive year, the Provincial Federcaccia of Macerata e ACMA - Association of Aquatic Migrant Hunters, sectoral of the Association that is specifically interested in research, monitoring and management of aquatic fauna, in collaboration with theTerritorial Hunting Area MC2 have put in place the project of artificial nests prepared for the nesting of mallards. The mallard is a surface duck, belonging to the order of the anseriformes and of the family of the anatidae; it is one of the largest and the male in nuptial livery is easily distinguished from the brown mottled female.
This species frequently frequents stagnant areas and areas along rivers, where it nests in the months of March and April, laying an average brood of 7/11 eggs. Thanks to the active work of some partners, the artificial nests have been restructured and placed in the municipalities of Montecosaro, Potenza Picena and Montelupone and given the experience of the past year they have been placed in some artificial lakes, placing them closer to the water level and hiding them among the marsh vegetation. These nests have the huge advantage of allowing a quiet nesting to this duck, avoiding the real risk of predation by corvids and foxes.
Thanks to those who collaborated on the project and its success: the president of ATC MC2 Pio Chiaramoni, the Vice-President of ACMA Marche Massimiliano Nociaro, the provincial president of FIdC Macerata Nazzareno Galassi, FIdC Montecosaro president Alessandro Malaisi, FIdC Potenza Picena president Giancarlo Capozucca, Federcaccia members Manuel Rogante, Lauro Bara, Michele Galassi. Once the work is finished, the nests will come monitored periodically by the voluntary hunting guards of the FIdC, in order to verify the consistency of the nesting.
