La Italian Bird Protection League (LIPU) expressly asked to close the hunting activity in Sicilia and throughout Italy taking a cue from the example of Albania. The pretext for this sortie are those who have been "Serious episodes of poaching". In particular, the animal rights association denounced an episode that saw as protagonist, in spite of himself, a Bonelli eagle, species at risk of extinction.
The bird was hit and transferred in serious condition to a recovery center in the province of Agrigento. Furthermore, the League referred to a black stork killed in the same area of the southern region and injured by a buzzard and a kestrel. According to this note, "This umpteenth event demonstrates the unsustainability of hunting in Italy and its being substantially out of control".
Furthermore, the number one of the LIPU, Fulvio Mamone Capria, he added that "If this is hunting then it must be closed immediately, without ifs and buts". The appeal for closure was addressed to the Sicily Region and the Government, but the LIPU has assured that a report of the incident has already been sent to the European Commission. The example to follow would be that of Albania, now famous in the hunting world.
