According to data from the Arosio Ornithological Observatory, the sharp drop in temperatures in our regions and the strong wind that swept much of Italy temporarily halted the migratory pace.
It was too good to think that we could continue like this in the fascinating migratory moment we had been accustomed to even in the first days of October until last Friday 7 October with the beginning of the sudden change in weather conditions passing, from a prolonged summer with temperatures above the norm at a drop in temperature, which dropped to 10 ° -12 ° with a strong cold wind that suddenly stopped our winged friends in their race towards the wintering shores.
The first days of October were, however, favorable to the pace of Song Thrush, which on Tuesday 4 and Wednesday 5 October had the two most notable "peaks", especially in some areas of the mid-hill, always accompanied by the Pettirosso and, as never before, by the Blackcap with the beginning of the first Lucarini.
The Frosoni are still absent, while the first signs of the Finches have been noticed. At the Arosio Ornithological Observatory, where data on the pass in Italy and abroad are collected, on Saturday 8 October the ringing of a specimen of foreign Luì (Phylloscopus inornatus), the first capture of this species, ever registered in the books of the Observatory, due to its ornithological rarity.
Finally, the presence of Teals, as they had not been found for years in the areas most congenial to them. However, we expect a strong recovery after these days of almost absolute stoppage due to the strong wind and with a recovery of the mercury column upwards. And so it is happening in the early hours of today Monday 10 October.
