Sponsored by the Municipality, the “Festa alla Torre” always takes place on the last Sunday of June.
It is a commitment that involves all the members of the “Torre” Association and friends, very much attended by all the citizens of San Mauro and registers a large turnout from neighboring countries.
Over the years, the festival has become an opportunity to rediscover the peasant traditions of the past, such as the threshing of wheat and plowing. Equally to show agricultural tools, vintage tractors, and to introduce games, crafts and folk dances.
Inside the Palazzo Padronale dei Torlonia, which in the nineteenth century represented the operational center of a large estate (the estate of the tower), exhibitions of materials relating not only to the agricultural world, but also bicycles used for old crafts are set up every year ( the knife grinder, the ragman, the straw maker of chairs, etc.) together with vintage photographs and antiques and modern antiques, hobby and collecting objects, object of exchange exhibition. The days of the festival are a unique opportunity to participate in guided tours of the main building, usually not accessible to the public. It starts from the cellars, once the site of an important wine-making establishment; continue with the hall of arches (at the time stable where the famous stern horse was hospitalized), the hall of columns (once a wheat warehouse). The two rooms are now restored and used as representative spaces.
Then it is possible to visit the second floor or noble floor, completely frescoed, where the Torlonia princes stayed during their visits to San Mauro, and finally the church dedicated to the saints of the festival, of very ancient origin: above the church there is the apartment where Giovanni Pascoli's family lived; the poet's father, Ruggero, was in fact the manager of the estate.
During the party some food stands will be set up, with tasting of typical local dishes.
Various traditional Irish music groups will enliven the evening on Saturday, while on Sunday there will be some local ethnic groups with songs and dances of the past.
