Poaching: five poachers were caught hunting wild boars within the Alta Murgia National Park in the part of the province of Bari.
In recent days, the men of the State Forestry Corps, during a territorial control service to combat poaching, surprised five poachers intent on hunting boars inside the Alta Murgia National Park; in particular, the operation took place in the wooded area "Masserie Nuove Cimadomo", of Corato (Ba), falling within "zone 1" of the Alta Murgia National Park, subject to the general prohibition of introducing weapons and operating the Hunting activity.
During the operation, the men of the Forestry were able to ascertain that two members of the group were equipped with semi-automatic smooth-bore rifles loaded with single bullet ammunition generally used to kill large animals as well as quite dangerous due to the significant harmful impact on game. and potentially for the many people who use the woods of Alta Murgia for sporting and naturalistic activities of various kinds, precisely because they are considered safer in consideration of the special protection regime.
All the people arrested turned out to be holders of regular firearms license for hunting use. Once the investigations on the spot were completed, the five poachers were reported on the loose and the weapons and ammunition found in their possession were seized; all risk arrest and a heavy fine of up to 13.000 euros as well as the suspension of the firearms license by the PS Authority.
