In the area of Tarvisio and Sequals, in the province of Pordenone, four hunting dogs were poisoned after eating poisoned "morsels" scattered by unknown persons. The men of the State Forestry Corps investigate the case.
One dead hunting dog and three dying: there is an alarm in the meadows and woods of Travesio and Sequals for the poisoned morsels, scattered by an unknown hand in various places beaten by hunters and their auxiliary dogs, for the practice of hunting . The baits found were composed of pieces of salami and lard mixed with a substance of blue color, the precise nature of which is not yet known.
Some hunters from the Travesio and Sequals reserves reported the incident to the competent authorities, who, in the days following the hunting trips, found the death of one of the dogs and the malaise of the others, which they therefore subjected to veterinary visits. Loss of appetite, vomiting, diarrhea, excessive salivation, difficult breathing and a state of general prostration are the main symptoms and poisoning from poisons the diagnosis of the zooiatrist, who leaves no room for easy optimism for the three animals who are struggling to survive in these hours.
The investigations into the affair are conducted by the Forestry Corps of Pinzano: the municipal police of Spilimbergo, in fact, after having dealt with the Zooprophylactic Institute of Pordenone, yesterday delegated the staff of the Forestry for the research, given that the latter was already following the case. Foresters are awaiting the results of the analyzes on poisoned baits, which they hope will be ready as soon as possible: in fact, only once they have the results will it be possible to trace the precise commercial type of poison used.
Furthermore, it is not yet known whether various toxic substances were used for the preparation of the morsels, given that one of the four dogs died almost immediately. There are poisons, in fact, that act faster and, if the intoxication is not diagnosed with a certain timing, they turn out to be lethal, while others act more slowly and the symptoms manifest themselves after a few days from ingestion, with bleeding and damage. irreparable to internal organs.
However, it is not the first time that there has been talk of animal poisoning in the Travesio area. Last March, several cats and a dog had been killed with mouthfuls soaked in endosulfan and carbosulfan, pesticides, as was learned from the veterinarian's analysis of dead animals. The incident was reported by Erik Marmai, a resident of Toppo, worried because these morsels could end up in the hands of his one and a half year old daughter.
