Hunting regulations
Regarding the announced intention to review the current legislation on hunting, which is currently occupying the pages of numerous newspapers and inflaming social media, the Hon. Stefano Vaccari, PD group leader in the Agriculture Committee of the Chamber, released a statement on the matter to the newspaper "La Repubblica". “The possible update of the reads 157, and I underline updating and not distortion, must take place as we have asked since the beginning of the legislature on the basis of technical data and knowledge that can be obtained with a report on the state of application of the legislation provided for by the law itself – declared Vaccari – The data management, the results obtained and the critical issues that emerged can give us a clear picture of the limits to be addressed and also the positive aspects to be valorised. The Government prepares this report after consulting the Regions and the management committees of the Hunting Areas and Alpine Areas, Ispra and sends it to Parliament.
The role of ISPRA
In that context, the changes to be introduced to the current legislation will be evaluated, taking care to safeguard the fundamental principles which are the fauna, an unavailable heritage of the State, the planning and total programming of the territory, the role of ISPRA and compliance with community directives. . The protection of biodiversity is the first objective which is not incompatible with hunting that respects scientific indications. These are issues to be addressed without ideological approaches but with great scientific rigor and safeguarding the public system of our legislation from any consumerist drift. It is clear that in these 31 years of application of the law we have witnessed substantial changes not only in habitats but also in faunal diversity. Above all, the excessive presence of wild boars whose containment must take place with great immediacy to reduce social, environmental and health conflicts.
Protected areas
Establishing where and how to hunt, game bags, times, species and times is not the task of politics, perhaps in terms of negotiation or barter, but as a consequence of the Ispra indications and applying European standards. This also applies to protected areas where culling and containment are already taking place. Already today the hunting season, in various regions, opens on September 1st and closes in the first ten days of February. Without prejudice to selection hunting which also takes place in different periods as indicated by Ispra and in snow-covered territories. I think that hunting involving the use of a weapon should only take place with adulthood" concluded the Honorable Vaccari.
