Mr Barbara Mazzali, regional councilor of Lombardy (Brothers of Italy), commented on the episode that took place in the Cremonese area in which the otters risked derailing the trains due to the groove created under the sleepers: "It could have been a tragedy yesterday in Torre de 'Picenardi, where the otters dug a furrow under the railway sleepers and the Mantua-Cremona line has been stuck for hours. Lombardy Region is already active against otters, but with my PDL - which I presented to the committee - a further step could be taken in the fight against this rodent which is now out of control.
My PDL offers some necessary changes to LR 20/2002 "Containment and eradication of nutria (Myocastor Coypus)" with the aim of introducing greater administrative and operational simplification for local authorities and operators and at the same time guarantee greater clarity and continuity of roles. In fact, it is true that there is already a nutrie plan and that we are already active on this front, but the situation is so emergency that we need to do more. Among other things, it introduces itself the possibility of resorting to burial in the case of small daily quantities, and the possibility, for the cage manager or the implementer, to keep the captured head.
It also introduces the reference that allows, exceptionally for garments shot down with a firearm in the context of control plans, that the same can be left on site, when the habitat conditions do not make recovery possible. Furthermore, the range of subjects authorized to withdraw after training by including the "pest control" firms and their appointees and the personnel appointed by the owners or tenants of the agricultural estates ".
