The Project Unit (UdP) for the eradication of the African swine fever (ASF) in Sardinia reminds that by September 10, applications for wild boar hunting authorizations must be submitted, for the 2019-2020 season, in areas infected with PSA. Requests must be forwarded to the Veterinary Animal Health Service competent for the area which will transmit them to the Inspectorate of the Forestry Corps and Environmental Supervision for the competent opinion. The representatives of the hunting companies who have not yet completed the training courses activated by the Region will still be able to apply by committing to follow the training activities by 31 October 2019.
In the next few days they will be published on the internet page of the Laore Sardegna agricultural agency, the calendars and the places where the courses will be held which, to facilitate the participation of hunters, will be organized in different territories of the island. The collaboration between UdP and the hunting world (represented by their associations) has allowed, in recent years, to constantly monitor the presence and movements of the PSA in the wild with a punctual collection by the hunters of the samples taken from the killed wild boars.
In the last hunting campaign the laboratories ofExperimental zooprophylactic institute of Sardinia they carried out the analyzes on about 13 thousand animals hunted throughout the region, of which 5 thousand came from the infected area (red zone). In addition to the checks on PSA, checks were also conducted for the presence of the parasite Trichinella, very dangerous for human health.
