During the lockdown for thecoronavirus emergency the sightings of wild boars are multiplying, which increasingly go into inhabited centers and the damage to crops is increasing even in the provinces of Vercelli and Biella. He denounces it Coldiretti highlighting that the number of wild boars that circulate without brakes in the countryside and in the city rises to over two million damaging crops and putting the safety of families at risk even on the few occasions when it is allowed to leave the house. In Piedmont with the stop to selection hunting e with fewer people to garrison the territories, wild boars are invading the countryside from north to south of the region.
“Damage was also detected in our provinces and the animals went close to the farms. The unbridled proliferation of wild boars is also endangering the environmental balance. Unfortunately this would also have been the right time, with the vegetation still reduced, to work to control their proliferation ”, explains Paolo Dellarole, president of Coldiretti Vercelli - Biella. ”Like Coldiretti Vercelli - Biella we sent a reminder to the prefectures a few days ago to request the reopening of containment plans, just as we have asked the hunting sectors of the provinces to continue their control activities.
We also remember that road accidents have decreased only because, at the moment, with the provisions that we must follow, fewer people circulate, but as soon as we return to the usual rhythms the risk will be high. Therefore, extraordinary measures will be needed to be put in place urgently. Let's not forget that in Piedmont in the last 6 years there have been 7.000 accidents caused by wildlife with an average of around 1.200 accidents per year, but with a tendency to increase ”.
