Calabrian Hunting Calendar harder than the Ispra criteria. The Young Hunters Association writes a letter to the Region.
The Young Hunters Association has recently sent a letter to the President of the Calabria Region Giuseppe Scopelliti, to the Regional Councilor for Agriculture Forests and Forestry Michele Trematerra and to the Councilor for Environmental Policies Francesco Pugliano in order to obtain clarifications regarding the changes made to the 2010/2011 Hunting Calendar in execution of the ordinance of the Calabria Tar.
The Young Hunters Association, which has among its main objectives that of spreading a healthy hunting culture understood as an important means of managing heavily anthropized ecosystems:
- having regard to the resolution of the Regional Council of 09 nov. 2010, n. 710 which had as its object the “Amendments to the 2010/2011 Hunting Calendar in execution of the ordinance of the Calabria Tar - Section II, 5/11/2010, n. 774 ";
- considering the Ispra guidelines regarding the non-migratory species - Corvids - in which the following is explicitly reported for the Crow, Magpie and Jay species:
"A hunting period between the third Sunday of September and January 31 is theoretically compatible with the period of end of reproduction and dependence defined by the document" Key Concepts "(3rd decade of August). However, a hunting period between 1 October and 20 January is strongly recommended, in correspondence with the exercise of hunting in a wandering form to other species. The advance withdrawal on 1 September, for some fixed days and in the single posting procedure, pursuant to art. 18, paragraph 2 of law no. 157/92, can be considered acceptable, as well as the postponement of the closing to February 10, always in the modality of the posting. In any case, the extension of the hunting period must not exceed the maximum time frame, according to the provisions of art. 18, paragraph 2 of law no. 157/92. "
- bearing in mind the actual impact that the Corvid population has on our ecosystem, being a species that enjoys excellent health judging by the increase in population density recorded in the last decade, highlighting the need to carry out control operations in order to to keep the population at acceptable levels both as regards the damage caused to agricultural crops and for a correct relationship with the species object of predation;
ASKS:
to be able to know the decision criteria that led to choose January 10, 2011 as the closing date of the hunt for corvids, as specified in the current hunting calendar.
The Association also raises its concerns on the subject in view of the excessive predation load that will insist on broods of species preyed on by Corvids. The Association itself invites the Regional Council of Calabria to carefully re-evaluate this aspect of fundamental importance in order to allow hunters to contribute to guaranteeing the balance of the ecosystem in which we all live. Furthermore, it is considered appropriate that a re-discussion of the hunting calendar is carried out, especially in those fundamental features that are much more conservative even than indicated by Ispra itself.
Loyal to the commitment assumed by the Young Hunters Association with the hunting world and with all citizens who place their trust in our work, we hope that this exchange of courtesy represents an opportunity to discuss important issues of supranational importance, such as the relative one. the safeguarding of migratory species, the management of sedentary ones and the increase of scientific knowledge through the collection of sensitive data in order to clearly and unambiguously define concrete strategies and interventions.
