PEZZE DI GRECO - The starlings emergency, which in the past olive-growing campaign caused considerable damage to the agricultural sector of the Fasano area, continues to hold ground in the local political discussion.
15.06.2011 - In recent days, the president of the Circolo "Nuova Italia" of Fasano, Tonio Zizzi, forwarded to the Prefect of Brindisi Nicola Prete the thousands of signatures collected by Coldiretti di Fasano and Pezze di Greco with which the modification is requested of article 2 (paragraph 1) of the Decree of the President of the Council of Ministers of 21 March 1997, concerning the elimination of the starling from the list of protected fauna species (“Sturnus vulgaris”).
“This - reads a note - in order to inform the Prefect of what are the serious problems that have gripped the agricultural sector of our municipality for years and what the procedure that we intend to pursue for the resolution of the same.
After the imminent approval of the resolution proposed in concert between the Circolo Nuova Italia of Fasano and the Coldiretti of Fasano, approved in the municipal council, we now await the neighboring municipalities of the coastal strip to adopt the same measure, to ensure that all resolutions are addressed to all the competent administrative authorities to finally arrive at the long-awaited modification of the list of huntable species and the related hunting periods ".
