Once, not too far away, they lived in the woods, far from inhabited centers and the population was quite low. Today they have grown to 40, proliferating exponentially over the past two to three years. Any reference is not at all casual: the wild boars have become too many and the reports of sightings in the neighborhoods of the towns and cities are no longer counted. Maybe a little bit is moving. The rest of the situation is serious and cannot be shrugged. There Campobasso Prefecture has called a meeting for Thursday 15 July, at 16.30 pm, at the Government Palace "for a joint examination of the development of the wild boar problem".
Prefect Antonio Cappetta invited the regional representatives of Coldiretti and the others trade organizations. There will be the mayor Gravina, the president of the Roberti Province, the commissioner, the provincial commanders of the Carabinieri, Police, Guardia di Finanza, Forestry Carabinieri, Traffic Police, but also Anci, Asrem, Anas of Abruzzo and Molise and of the Motorway Section that crosses Molise. In conclusion, the problem is common and needs to be addressed urgently. From Coldiretti the cry of alarm, indeed for help, has been echoing for months and months: “We are not invaded by UFOs but by wild boars yes. Farmers sow and cultivate, wild boars harvest. Where are we going to end up? Their presence is now a constant and proliferation is uncontrolled ”.
It is lapidary Aniello Ascolese, director of Coldiretti Molise, who after the flash mob of 8 July in the Regional Council returns to denounce what is happening in the Molise countryside also on the basis of numerous reports that arrive daily from all over the region. "Despite a greater presence of the selectors that we had repeatedly asked the Region, in the countryside but also in urban centers - he continues -, people must give way to wild boars. For some time we have asked for the implementation of a Control Plan that provides for the implementation of all measures aimed at contrasting and reducing the wild population in agricultural areas, but we note that there continues to be a legislative / administrative 'slowness' that does not it takes into account that it is often useless to sow and that the crops in place come heavily damaged".
Farmers are exasperated. Reinforcing fences is also becoming pointless, as ungulates take down everything in front of them. This is why “it is necessary to change the national rules which date back to about thirty years ago and which had been designed for the protection and protection of wildlife, in order to reconstitute the fauna and which today have evidently proved no longer suitable. We do not ask for the extermination of wild boars but a fair balance between those who have always lived in rural areas, who must have the possibility of continuing to work and produce food. Today this equilibrium is totally lost ”.
The proliferation, as mentioned, seems uncontrolled: to date it is estimated that there are about 40 thousand animals in the Molise area, with the consequent damage, accidents and even a possible health risk. "The resolution of the problem can no longer be postponed - affirms the confederal delegate of Coldiretti Molise, Giuseppe Spinelli -, it is absolutely necessary to ensure the right protection of the work of those who earn their living in the countryside, the safety of people and the liveability of places. If we do not take note of this calamity and do not intervene, then do not be surprised that there is more and more abandoned agricultural land". And the emergency spreads from the countryside to the cities: it is not at all rare to observe the 'walks' of wild boars in broad daylight near parks, very populous neighborhoods, gardens. A problem also for the safety of people that must be at the top of the thoughts of the administrators (Source: First number).
