“Wild boars, we are helplessly witnessing a real escalation of damage in the field and fatal road accidents, unfortunately the result of the uncontrolled proliferation of wild animals ". This is the complaint of Coldiretti Ravenna in front of a spread of wild boars that now extends from the mountains to the plains, from the countryside to the cities, to the coast, putting public safety on the roads and around the houses at risk, with a dramatic toll of accidents even with loss of life.
The alarm, raised several times by Coldiretti both locally and nationally, comes a few days after the last accident caused by a wild boar and cost the life of a 63-year-old from Piacenza. An episode that took place on the roads of our region - explains Coldiretti Ravenna - which represents only the tip of the iceberg, since between 2012 and 2017 in Emilia-Romagna there were over 4.700 accidents caused by wild animals, 400 of which were caused by wild boars ". The wild, therefore, not only represent a scourge for cultivated fields, but they also exterminate farmed animals and represent a danger to road traffic.
It is no coincidence that eight out of 10 Italians (81%) - according to the Coldiretti / Ixè survey - they think that the wild boar emergency must be addressed with targeted containment: "Any further action to contrast should be allowed, even with all the necessary precautions - states Coldiretti Ravenna - to be added to what, on the front of the control of the species, are already doing the ATC with commitment ". Coldiretti Ravenna, as reiterated several times, "considers it essential to accelerate the full application of the new regional wildlife plan," a fundamental tool for protecting agricultural income and guaranteeing road and public safety "(Ravenna News).
