The debate on wild boars and the proposed law of the Tuscany Region also asked the Italian Confederation of Farmers. The president of the regional section of the association, Luke Brunelli, has launched a real provocation to those who are signing the appeal against the rule that provides for the reduction of the number of these animals, inviting famous people or not to adopt a family of wild boars. The irony used by the Tuscan CIA depends on the fact, as pointed out by Brunelli himself, that each Tuscan farmer currently has to take care of five ungulates, therefore, the junta should move forward in a decisive manner and aim for an environmental balance that the territory needs.
The adoption would serve to increase the number of contributions to solve the problem. As stated in the press release, the emergency is serious and it is not enough to shed “a moving tear” in favor of wild boars, appeals like these have been defined by Tuscan farmers as superficial and signed without knowing the reality in detail. For Brunelli, even the environmentalists have recognized the excessive number of animals in Tuscany (more than 400 thousand to be precise), an obvious damage to the agricultural sector, but also to the environment, health and road safety.
As a result, everyone is aware that the exponential increase in wild boar, deer and roe deer must be stopped. The introduction of wild boar predators is frowned upon (there was also talk of electric fences in this case), the only method contemplated by the Confederation is that of the containment action. Brunelli reiterated how sustainable development and ecosystem balance can be achieved after ensuring the necessary conditions of "coexistence" between agricultural activity, forests and fauna. This balance does not exist today and the total number of wild boars has even doubled over the past decade.
CIA Toscana is convinced that, going forward at this rate and without any decisive intervention, in a few years Tuscany will be characterized by a number of ungulates higher than that of the inhabitants. The note ends with an exhortation. The association truly believes in the presence of wildlife as a value for Tuscany, in particular from an economic, environmental and biodiversity point of view. That is why it is asking that this same value be managed in balance with everything else. Furthermore, the Tuscany Region has been invited to proceed with its bill, a step to be taken in a determined manner and with the awareness of the need for something new for the region.
