Just as it happened in 2020, to try to contain the damage caused by wild boars to crops, theUmbria cuts the time available to territorial hunting areas to intervene in the event of a call. Wednesday, as a matter of urgency, the regional council has ordered the reduction from 48 to 4 hours of the hours granted to the ATC (the territorial hunting areas) to intervene in the event of a call: after 4 hours, the farmer (obviously with a hunting license) who will find a wild boar in his land will be able to shoot. The provision, envisaged by regulation of 2010 on the damage caused by wildlife, had already been adopted a year ago and will remain in effect until autumn, when wild boar hunting opens.
In addition to this, it is confirmed that "for scheduled and urgent interventions, even at night the presence of only one supervisor is sufficient ". The junta adopted these decisions after the meetings between the commissioner Roberto Morroni and the associations of the agricultural world emerged, with regard to the large number of wild boars, "a situation of particular gravity" and "the consequent damage to agricultural production". In the meantime, the comparison on the new regional regulation (the previous one dates back to 1999) continues which, for the first time, includes ungulates among the species that can be "taken" through selection hunting.
Morroni on Wednesday announced that "on the problem of proliferation"Will convene a table with Atc, the agricultural and hunting world:" A fundamental confrontation, immediately following the definitive approval of the regulation on selection hunting which, for the first time, also includes this species. At that time - he says - we will define together further actions to strengthen the control and management interventions necessary to avoid damage to crops and risks to health and public safety". Morroni, who stressed that he shared the concerns of farmers, said he was certain that the regulation "will make an effective contribution to controlling the spread of wild boars".
