Hunting: Genoa, more than a thousand hunters took to the streets to protest against the third suspension of the hunting season after yet another anti-hunting appeal.
Almost two thousand hunters from all over Liguria (according to animal rights activists a few hundred!), Who took to the streets in Genoa this morning to protest against the uncertainty of the law, against the continuous upheavals of the regional provisions on hunting activities caused by anti-hunt appeals; so this morning the hunters paraded through the city streets to set up a garrison in Piazza De Ferrari asking for certainties on the performance of the hunting activity, especially in the face of government taxes already paid for a right not granted. Many banners of the areas and federations, but also those of solidarity with workers in the hunting field. There are many acronyms of the hunting associations present in the square, including the National Union of Enalcaccia, Pesca and Tiro, whose vice-president, Pietro Saldan, commented, "We were received by the president of the Giunta and by the majority and opposition group leaders we have obtained a response based on the utmost solidarity and the commitment of the Region to put an end, once and for all, to these instrumental initiatives by environmentalists-animalists that lead nowhere. Although they have already been disavowed last year in almost all of Italy by the Administrative Courts and the Council of State they continue to re-propose the same appeals ”.
Tomorrow, November 26, the Council of State will decide on the suspension of the Hunting Calendar therefore the Ligurian hunters ask the Liguria Region that, regardless of the outcome of the pronouncement, it takes action to allow the hunting to take place until January. In fact, Saldan explained, "There are three hypotheses: First hypothesis, if the Council of State were to agree with the applicants, we would be faced with a regulatory vacuum due to the absence of the Calendar, and the Region should therefore provide". The second hypothesis provides for the cancellation of some passages of the Calendar "for which the Region would be entitled to intervene to remedy them". Finally, the third hypothesis, advocated by hunters: "The Council of State agrees with the Region and therefore the current Calendar should be considered valid for all purposes".
During the meeting, the regional councilor for hunting, Renata Briano said, "We need greater work certainty for the Regions and where it is appropriate to change the national legislation to put us back in the condition of working peacefully in compliance with the law and in legal certainty. And in this regard, tomorrow, on the basis of what the sentence of the Council of State will say, we will move to restore the right of hunters to resume activity as soon as possible ”. During the meeting, the hunters' associations pointed out "the importance of a hunting calendar respected by all with an annual significance that clearly states how the season will develop".
Councilor Briano however guaranteed that all the actions that the Region intends to take will be adopted by mutual agreement with the councilors, both majority and minority, and in this regard, tomorrow, in the Regional Council, an agenda will be presented in order to guarantee the right of hunters to resume activity and to put pressure on the government to intervene on legislation, in order to strengthen regional competence. Another crux of the discussion, as well as an additional reason for protest on the part of the hunters, is the employment situation of the direct employees in the hunt which in Liguria amount to about two hundred, including Territorial Areas of Hunting, Federations and armories, not to mention those of the entire induced produced on a regional basis by the Hunting Activity.
Also present at the day of protest in Genoa was the president of the Province of Savona, Angelo Vaccarezza, who commented on the situation as follows, “To block the hunt is to deny a right for which these people have paid, not being able to practice a passion of theirs. Many do not realize the damage that is being caused: the absence of the hunter on the territory means the abandonment of that territory that is usually managed by those who frequent it, whether they are farmers or hunters. The partnership between hunting and agricultural associations gives the management of woods and hinterland. I want to see if the so-called "environmentalists", who are not environmentalists but are only anti-hunting, would replace them to protect the environment as they do ".
Finally Vaccarezza concluded, “The problem is that if we continue to move forward with a resolution that can be challenged every time, hunting will no longer be a certainty, so why pay the card? Anyone who fights against hunting would like to think about what the hinterland would become without hunters: a den of brambles, wild boars and land of fires. A really nice result".
Obviously, the usual comment of the environmentalists could not be missing, who defined the demonstration of the hunters "A paradoxical protest". In fact, in their own note, the Ligurian sections of WWF, Lega Abolizione Caccia, and Verdi Ambiente e Società commented on the protest demonstration procaccia, "The protest demonstration by hunters against the magistrates of the Council of State, who play their role of judges of the shaky administrative measures of the Region in the matter of the Hunting Calendar, it has the taste of a mockery of Genoa prostrated by days of even sacrosanct work demands ". Continuing, the anticaccias said, "If it is obvious that one must and can demonstrate for the guarantee of one's job, it seems paradoxical that in a city in crisis, inconveniences are created in the city center and one turns to the Prefect to inveigh against a ruling of the Judicial Authority ".
Furthermore, the environmentalists said, concluding, "Ligurian hunters (now below the threshold of 18.000) are one percent of the regional population while the majority of Ligurians, according to every opinion poll, now only feel contempt for forms of exploitation of natural assets marked by a "12 gauge" consumerism. If the regional council represented all Ligurian citizens and drafted provisions that respect the mandatory scientific opinions, no politician could any longer profit from a judicial dispute born only for the obstinacy of an administration to take hold of indefensible positions. Migratory wildlife is a natural heritage of international significance and cannot be the object of electoral trade ".
