Hunting: Liguria, the environmentalists of the Wildlife Hunting Commission absent at the meeting with Councilor Briano for the presentation of the draft of the new Hunting Calendar 2013/2014.
The representatives of the environmental associations within the Regional Wildlife Hunting Commission, for the first time in the last 20 years, have decided to desert the meeting convened by the Regional Councilor for Hunting and Environment Renata Briano to expose the contents of the draft of the Hunting Calendar regional 2013/2014. According to environmentalists, the contents of the new regional hunting calendar for the 2013/14 season, prepared by the regional councilor and presented today to associations and provinces, is "unacceptable" as it "shamelessly eludes all the scientific opinions made in recent years by ISPRA, Higher Institute for Environmental Protection and Research, regarding hunting periods, the number of days for hunting and the maximum limits of specimens that can be killed daily. And this in the substantial absence of new scientific data and following an autumn 2012 characterized by significant overall decreases in the presence of specimens of the main migratory huntable species ”.
Continuing, the environmentalists explain, "Ignoring the most recent pronouncements of the Tar Liguria (which, for example, had brought the stop for thrush hunting to January 20), we even envisage an extension to February 10 of the hunting periods for some species, the reintegration of the now rare lark among the huntable species and the easing of the ban on the use of ammunition containing lead (which contaminates meat intended for consumption) both for hunting ungulates and near watercourses. All this is always accompanied by an excessive number of hunting days in the months of October and November, and by absolutely unsustainable game bags ".
The representatives of the environmental associations refuse a priori to discuss the contents of the resolution for the draft Calendar, declaring that "There emerges a political choice of clear unwillingness to enact measures, as well as mediated with respect to the different instances, at least proportionate to the higher need for safeguarding the our wildlife heritage ".
Finally, the environmentalists conclude by making it known "Even a certain part of the Regional Council, which in the last resort must vote on the measure, has in recent years proved insensitive in accepting the guidelines of the majority of Ligurian citizens, favoring clientelist choices in favor of ever decreasing "12 gauge" minorities.
