Liguria, Lombardy, Tuscany, Emilia Romagna, Marche, Veneto and Piedmont will come together to find a common solution to the question of hunting in derogation.
On Friday 18 May the hunting manager for the PD council group in the Region, councilor Valter Ferrando, together with the regional councilor Alessio Cavarra, will promote a meeting with colleagues from Lombardy, Tuscany, Emilia Romagna, Marche, Veneto and Piedmont that will take place at the Representation Room of the Regional Council of Liguria to take stock of the situation of hunting in derogation for some species and at the same time prepare a common action that can solve the problem between the different institutional levels.
Councilor Ferrando's intent is to “promote shared initiatives at an inter-regional level to help resolve the age-old question of hunting in derogation through discussions with the bodies of the European Union, the Government and the Italian Parliament”.
Continuing, Ferrando explains, “It is no longer possible to proceed without full assumption of responsibility for exceptions by the various institutional levels. It is necessary to avoid that only the Regions are burdened with the task of acting on the matter, with laws or administrative measures at the risk of appeals and sanctions; for this reason, I believe that the issue of a Presidential Decree with the guidelines on derogations can no longer be postponed by the Government ”.
In addition to the need for national guidelines on hunting in derogation from the meeting, the problem of the so-called "small quantities" and a comparison with the European Union will also be addressed.
In fact, this meeting will be the first of a series of meetings that will also involve both national and European parliamentarians so as to be able to set up a suitable working table to reach a definitive resolution to the issue of starling hunting.
The councilor affirmed, "It is necessary to open a comparison between the Regions and ISPRA to clearly define the conditions that allow the hunting withdrawal in derogation of the transfer, but above all to resolve the singular lack of scientific data for the determination of the calculation methods of small amount".
Finally Ferrando concluded, "Finally, a unanimous determination of the national government towards the European Union is needed, so that scientific studies and political will are summed up in a univocal request that overcomes the contradiction that characterizes Italy, the only Mediterranean country of the Union in which it is forbidden to hunt for starlings ".
