The growth of the wild boar population in San Bartolo Regional Natural Park has become worrying. This is the green area that rises in the province of Pesaro and Urbino and which was established in 1994. The Park Authority has decided to approve the management plan for ungulates in order to achieve a density very close to zero. The damage to the socio-economic and environmental fabric is enormous, also taking into account that the animal preys on young mammals, meadow birds, reptiles and amphibians. The plan will have a total duration of three years and will end no later than 31 December 2018: the control will take place by firing with a rifle from a fixed position.
Furthermore, the hunting will take place between November 1st and March 31st, always on the days of Tuesday and Friday, while as regards the timetable it will start one hour before sunrise up to one hour after sunset. The presence of wild boars has been ascertained by means of camera traps and the trajectory of the bullets was studied, so that they stick into the ground even if the game is missing.
Withdrawals and killing will be carried out only by volunteers who have passed the shooting test at a national shooting gallery, with qualification to hunt for selection of ungulates, valid hunting license and accident insurance policy. All these subjects will be authorized by the Park Authority to transport weapons in the protected area.
