Poaching in the Brindisi area. In recent days, a patrol of the State Forestry Corps, during the normal control service of the territory, has identified a man in camouflage with a rifle in clear hunting attitude; the agents then approached for normal control operations but were threatened by the subject who was aiming the rifle at him.
The situation, already critical in itself, degenerated when in the course of the dispute between the with the agents who asked him to lower and download theweapon, the poacher exploded shots without luckily hurting anyone. An escape on foot between the fields immediately resulted, after having tripped over boulders, the man was fortunately arrested and taken to the local Carabinieri barracks for subsequent investigations.
The manager, 56-year-old MD, born in Palagiano and resident in Ceglie Messapica, was found to have no carry-on, then reported to the Public Prosecutor of Brindisi for illegal carrying and detention of weapons and munitions, hunting theft, illegal use of calls and resistance to public officials.
The poacher, who had already killed two specimens of thrush, had already been notified of a provision prohibiting the possession of weapons; the Public Prosecutor ordered the precautionary measure of house arrest against him.
The episode dramatically revived the phenomenon of poaching, widely practiced in the Brindisi hinterland. For this reason, the guard of the State Forestry Corps remains high, which for some time has prepared a series of targeted checks on the territory, providing for reinforced patrols for the most critical situations.
