There is a lack of personnel to search for wild boar carcasses and for killing. Controls on the territory dedicated to African swine fever (Psa) are in difficulty as well as the implementation of the ordinance of the Piedmont region which has started the containment of ungulates in the infected area and in the surrounding areas. This was reported by the regional councilor for agriculture Marcus Protopapa in the conference that took place on Thursday in Alessandria on Psa, organized by the Zooprophylactic Institute of Turin.
“The operations are necessary to achieve the elimination of the virus and to respect the objectives set by Ispra equal to 38.200 wild boars to be killed. Considering the extension of the territory to be monitored continuously and for an indefinite period at the moment, we believe that with the small "institutional" forces now available, that is park guard, provincial police and regional forestry workers, it will not be possible to guarantee an effective active search of the carcasses - said the commissioner - nor to carry out the control, containment and selection of wild boars for the purpose of their eradication ".
In the Czech Republic, Protopapa explained, “the hunters and volunteers for the PSA emergency had been paid. This is why I asked the government for resources, otherwise they will have to send the army from Rome ”. Protopapa wrote to ministers Patuanelli and Cingolani, to the extraordinary Commissioner for the PSA emergency management, Angelo Ferrari, and to Ispra: "The emergency situation of African swine fever in which we find ourselves requires extraordinary actions that make it possible to obtain results and this will be possible if staff from institutions and financial resources are found to contribute to the various expenses necessary for the activities carried out by the volunteers ”.
Furthermore, the hunters who are members of the local boar hunting teams did not join the abatements ordered by the Region. Moreover, the junta will soon evaluate the containment plan of the A dog requested at the time by the government.
