Hunting accident: Piedmont, a hunter dies after being hit by mistake during a wild boar hunt in Val Borbera.
A 67-year-old hunter was the victim of a hunting accident this morning during a hunt wild boar hunting on the Apennines, in the area of the Variana di Grondona woods in Val Borbera. According to an initial reconstruction, the man was accidentally hit by a hunting companion. The wild boar hunting team, made up of about ten people, had gone before dawn to the chosen hunting area in the woods of Variana di Grondona in Val Borbera, lurking on a ridge waiting for the dogs to push the boar towards the post office. ; during the early hours of the morning the haze and a dense fog characterized the wooded area, extremely reducing visibility. From a reconstruction of the facts it would seem that precisely in these circumstances the young harness maker felt a movement in the trees seeing a silhouette and then fired.
Unfortunately, the shot hit the mark but the silhouette glimpsed in the bushes was not a boar, it was a teammate, the huntsman was hit in the chest by the bullet wounding him to death. The hunters immediately requested the intervention of rescuers who with great difficulty, following the indications of the hunters, managed to reach the scene of the accident in a few minutes; unfortunately the huntsman had already died from the serious wound in his chest.
Shortly afterwards, the Carabinieri of the Arquata Station and of the Provincial Command of Alessandria as well as the magistrate in charge of the investigation arrived on the spot; throughout the afternoon, the men of the weapon listened to the testimonies of the other members of the team still in a state of shock for the death of the hunting companion. Given the facts that emerged, the young hunter is currently being investigated on the charge of manslaughter.
