Chiappa Firearms: Presented in January 2014 at the Shot Show in Las Vegas, the expected LA322 by Chiappa Firearms will be in distribution from the end of October.
This Western replica has several typical features; by pushing the lever all the way, the cartridge case is extracted from a window on the right side of the receiver; the safety is manual (hammer in half mount), and the sights are a “Buckhorn” rear sight with manually adjustable rise and drift and tunnel front sight. Currently available only in the version with wooden stock, the DELUXE version with walnut knurled pistol stock will soon be offered.
Il LA322 it combines the reliable mechanics it has accustomed us to Chiappa firearms at an absolutely exceptional price. The retail price is under € 500, against € 1.000 - € 1.500 which is the average cost of other lever action rifles from the same manufacturer. This result was possible thanks to some measures that (thanks also to the small caliber, of course) made it possible to save especially on some aesthetic details. The stock, for example, is in varnished beech wood, while the classic lever-action rifles of the Azzano Mella company are in walnut with a manual oil finish.
The action is made of alloy and the “artificial” tortoiseshell, that is, it is obtained with a decoration process of the latest technology, instead of the classic (and expensive) traditional tortoiseshell. The “simplification” of the LA322 compared to other more structured lever action rifles - which is perfectly in line with the light caliber - on the other hand entails the undeniable advantages linked to a formidable ease of use.
Loading, for example, is done by disassembling the rod of the magazine tube which has a bayonet coupling; then you simply drop the cartridges by gravity keeping the barrel pointing slightly upwards and reposition the fore-end by pressing lightly to compress the magazine spring. The rifle has a capacity of 15 rounds.
Another very easy operation is disassembly: just open the lever completely, unscrew the screw on the right side of the action and lift the rear half of the speargun with the stock. In this way the LA322 it is divided into two parts for easy transport, for easy cleaning or even to store the two parts separately for safety. Obviously, the reassembly is carried out with the reverse procedure, in a few seconds.
In general the LA322 is a perfect match between the elegant and precious lever action shotguns of Chiappa firearms and modern small-caliber replicas: fun is guaranteed.
