Hunting: Piedmont resumes wild boar hunting in Valsesia after the suspension of the slaughter plan due to radioactive contamination of the meat of some animals.
Hunting for wild boars in Valsesia can resume; in recent weeks the abatement plan had been suspended after finding of Cesium 137, a radioactive isotope, in order to allow veterinarians to find the best solutions for carrying out analyzes on culled animals and for the disposal of contaminated carcasses. Then establish the methods of analysis on the new items. The slaughtered wild boars will be stored in a cold room in Rimasco pending the results of the analyzes on trichinella and radioactivity. Valsesian wild boar meat will be among the most controlled in Italy.
Wild boar hunts will cover some areas of the valley where these ungulates are causing serious damage to agriculture. Meanwhile, the quadrant commission for the provinces of Novara, Vercelli, Biella and Verbano-Cusio-Ossola will meet next week and will establish the methods of disposal of the ungulates contaminated by Cesium 137 in the Valsesia area.
