Santo Caracappa, medical director of theExperimental Zooprophylactic Institute of Sicily, made very interesting statements to the Adnkronos news agency. According to this body, in fact, it is necessary to understand that unfortunately the one with the boars is a forced coexistence on the southern island, always respecting the territory and avoiding that the wild can become dangerous for people.
Caracappa's comment became necessary later the episode recorded in Palermo, where an ungulate broke into an elementary school. The keeper of the institute was injured and the Forestry killed the animal once they arrived on the spot. It is not the first close encounter and fortunately there were no more serious consequences.
Wild boars are increasingly present in Sicilian towns. For the Zooprophylactic Institute, control plans can only be the most effective solution. Based on what was reported by Mario Lo Valvo, professor of Fauna Protection and Management at the University of Palermo, wild boars are neither dangerous nor aggressive. In the Palermo area there are about 50 specimens on the Mount Pellegrino, but there are also others in the Capo Gallo Reserve.
