HUNTERS - BELLINZONA - The “Committee for a more ethical and effective hunting activity” is enormously satisfied. 2.565 signatures were delivered today to the state chancellery.
Signatures that come in large part from hunters who - as stated in the note issued by the Committee - have signed the desire to turn the page, the desire to submit to the competent Authorities the claims of Ticino hunters perpetually stifled for years ”.
"Prematurely and unjustly accused of demagogy and of not considering the alleged scientific details that lead to certain management decisions - reads the note - regarding the populations of ungulates present on our territory, we have not given up, convinced that we can make our contribution to the hunting cause but above all convinced of pursuing a more ethical, respectful and far-sighted idea to pursue certain killing plans ".
Below are the considerations of the "Committee for a more ethical and effective hunting activity" which convinced 2.565 people:
Crop damage assessment:
The assessment of the damage caused to crops and any compensation, in the future, will have to be quantified by a commission of professional experts in the sector. The data must be published and quantified district by district.
This is in consideration of the fact that the intervention fund intended to compensate such damages is practically, directly or indirectly financed by the Ticino hunters.
Roe deer:
We look forward to the protection of the female roe deer in the upper valleys. This considering the enormous growth difficulties that this species encounters, due in particular to the harsh winters, the mortality caused by agricultural equipment in the period of birth and the feared arrival of predators on our territory.
Chamois:
Considering the difficulties deriving from the federal directives, we hope that, as already proposed for several years by various companies, the hunter will have the possibility to decide whether to take the adult male from the first day of hunting, thus ending the chamois hunt.
Alternatively, the current implementing regulations apply.
Banned:
We hope for a 30% reduction in the cantonal bans on deer.
Deer:
As for the deer, the high hunt must be carried out from 1st to 30th September.
The spindle with horns smaller than the size of the ears (see application regulation of the Canton of Grisons), can be killed during the whole period intended for high hunting. The specimens must be delivered with the horns intact.
Furthermore, taking into consideration the fact that the declared objective is the reduction of the deer population and, as we have denounced several times, to achieve this objective we resort to a further selection of mostly pregnant females, in a period of year, for the species, very delicate, we propose that the killing of a nursing female as the first capture should not be subject to self-report.
The regulation of application regarding the male of the deer will have to follow the same modalities used up to now. Consequently, we hope that the protection of the “crowned” male deer will not be taken into consideration, in consideration of the fact that during the last hunting season, these withdrawals were small and quite low in weight.
Late autumn deer hunting:
5-year moratorium on late autumn hunting. In exceptional cases (evaluating district by district), where a too low collection is found, a further selection must concern no more than 20% of the catches acquired during high hunting in the single district.
In consideration of the 2565 signatures collected, we hope in the future to be able to take part, in the decision-making process, in the “Ungulate Group” and in the commissions responsible for drafting the application regulations on hunting activities.
