Federcaccia Umbra on the pre-adopted regional hunting calendar; the draft is good as a starting point but changes will be proposed on boar hunting and the fight against opportunists.
President Di Marco, what is Federcaccia Umbra's position on the draft of the regional hunting calendar pre-adopted by the outgoing junta? “For now the hunting calendar is identical to that of last season, which is a good starting point for us. Before final approval, however, we will propose some changes to ensure greater clarity of the rules, for example regarding the pre-opening for quail. We intend to expand the spaces on which it will be possible to undermine the little galliforme, following the example of what happens in the Marche region or, even better, specifying only where it will not be allowed. to hunt, therefore the woods, the uncultivated and the lands with crops in place. We will also return to insist on the readmission to the calendar of the rock partridge species, which must be managed in a scientific and prudent manner. For years we have been soliciting the commissioner on this point; he had also shown us his availability but, to date, we have not yet seen concrete steps in this direction. But we insist ". Another fundamental theme for hunting in Umbria is that of the regulation for wild boar hunting. “The changes that have been under discussion for some time have finally been approved. It was time, we add, because in this way the individual hunting form of wild suide is also standard. However, we still believe that there are critical issues, especially regarding the possible appearance hunt and the form of hunt hunting. We are concerned, in particular, because without the limitation - which we have requested several times - of a single dog for the individual hunter, it would not be possible to establish how many and how individuals will hunt. For example, territories could be found, whether or not they are assigned to a certain team of beltlai, within which small groups of individuals exercise the wild boar hunting. We need to think and be vigilant, to prevent the occurrence of potentially very dangerous situations for everyone, hunters or not. We will see what the hunt for appearance will be like, a subject on which the Region has reserved the right to produce a subsequent regulation, but on the hunt for hunting - as it is now foreseen - we express all our perplexities ”.
Finally, the fight against opportunist species. Recently, the Region has granted hunters, after passing an exam preceded by a relative course whose organization is headed by the ATC, the possibility of containing these species even with firearms, during the spring-summer period, both in the restocking and capture areas and on the free territory.
“The important changes that have taken place within the various Umbrian ATCs have brought new people and new ideas to the various management committees. Among these ideas, the initiative to 'push' for a more rigid containment of corvids, to be carried out no longer only through traps, but also with the aid of a firearm, proved to be very important. Obviously all this will need a specific regulation, which will be up to the ATCs to study, draft and approve, together with the obligatory preparation courses for operators. We believe this is one of the most important achievements, and at the same time challenges, that the Umbrian hunting world has obtained in recent years from the institutions ”.
“Like Federcaccia Umbra - continues Di Marco - we have long been asking that hunters be granted the useful and necessary tools to manage in the best possible way the exorbitant proliferation of opportunistic species, especially corvids. With this recent provision, the Region has granted us these tools, together with a very precious certificate of esteem for our responsibility and maturity as a hunting world. In conjunction with the trapping period, in the areas managed directly by the hunting associations as well as in the remaining territory with programmed hunting, some specially trained hunters will finally be able to work to contain the excessive surplus of these species, guaranteeing biodiversity both among the huntable species and among those protected which, it should be remembered, represent over 90% of the Italian wildlife heritage ".
