Arci Caccia Toscana on the conference "Firearms and port of arms" held in Lucca; seriousness of the organizers and of the debate in comparison with the usual bad policy.
On Monday 8 April an important conference was held in Lucca organized by the "Every Volta" ONLUS association to discuss the use and possession of firearms and for the presentation of a bill to reorganize the entire subject. In the wake of a tragic experience that has struck the leaders of the organizing association, in the presence of many Authorities, Professional Orders, representatives of the Public Safety, a serious and responsible debate has developed, aimed at identifying the real critical issues that have determined the occurrence of bloody events due to the improper use of weapons regularly held.
Particularly significant was the balance with which it was decided to tackle such a complex and delicate issue, on which qualified and merit-based contributions arrived from professional figures (general practitioners, lawyers, psychologists, law enforcement agencies) who, on a daily basis , are faced with this issue. The real problem that has been identified is not so much the need for a tightening of an already restrictive legislation, but rather that of making the information network organic, to allow a timely dialogue between the Medical Authorities and the Public Safety Authorities.
What emerged clearly is the difference between Senator Granaiola's professional approach to the issue and the one more marked by emotionality, who, with regard to the use of weapons, defined the hunting activity as "unworthy", to the point of hope for a total ban on weapons for hunting purposes. The same Senator, among other things signatory of the appeal of the twelve Senators of the PD against the provision of the Province of Siena for the containment of foxes, in seeking the easy consent by soliciting the strings of populism, ended up presenting to the audience, however attentive , prepared and qualified, the face of politics that thinks it is perpetually in the electoral campaign.
The Arci Caccia Nazionale took part in the conference, represented by the Vice-President Massimo Logi who, during his speech, did not fail to argue with Senator Granaiola (who in the meantime had abandoned the works) and posing three fundamental questions on which to open a close confrontation in the event of a new bill, reminding everyone that holders of hunting weapons are today among the subjects most monitored and subjected to periodic checks:
- A strong differentiation between hunting and sporting weapons compared to other types, especially as regards short weapons and licenses for personal defense;
- strengthen the centrality of the family doctor as a reference for assessing the state of health of the individual;
- to put on the net any information that can allow better elements of prevention avoiding the periodicization of renewals and special commissions. However, any new legislative instrument cannot be born against certain categories of arms owners; politics will have to play the role it deserves by creating a high synthesis of needs and solutions, something that Senator Granaiola is proving she cannot do.
This and other problems, the current political climate obliges the Italian hunting world to promptly create a cultural barrier and reject the raids and the possible parliamentary drift interested in undermining the foundations of the legitimacy of our activity on various fronts.
